Functional Description

IC3600SVDC1F is a Vibration Detector PCB developed by GE. It is a part of GE Mark I and II series. By continuously checking vibration signals from sensors, the SVDC board helps protect the turbine against mechanical imbalances, bearing failures, and other critical faults.

Function and Operation

  • Signal Input: The sensor transmits a vibration signal to the board via pins labeled VIB (vibration signal) and ACOM (analog common). The peak value of the vibration signal is detected by the board’s circuitry.
  • Reference Comparison: The peak vibration signal is compared against a reference threshold, which is adjustable via potentiometer R1. If the signal exceeds the reference, it indicates an abnormal vibration level.
  • Alarm Latching and Indication: When excessive vibration is detected Output T is latched to logic 1, A trouble light is illuminated. This condition remains latched until it is reset
  • Reset Mechanism: The latched alarm can be cleared by Pressing the local reset pushbutton. Sending a logic 1 signal to input RST.
  • Monitoring Points: The system includes test points for real-time monitoring
    • TP1–TP2: Peak input signal (vibration level)
    • TP3–TP4: Reference setpoint voltage
  • Gain Adjustment: If the sensor has a sensitivity of 0.2 volts peak for 3 inches/sec., the GAIN pin can be connected to ACOM to double the gain of the detector enhancing sensitivity to lower vibration levels.

Sensor Fault Detection

  • It can detect if the vibration sensor is open or shorted.
  • When a fault is identified:
    • A separate latching circuit activates
    • Output A becomes logic 1
    • The trouble light is illuminated
  • The fault condition can only be reset using:
    • The local reset pushbutton, or
    • A remote reset signal

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IC3600SVDC1F?
It is a Vibration Detector PCB developed by GE.

How does the board detect vibration levels?
The board receives a signal from a vibration sensor via the VIB and ACOM pins. It detects the peak value of this signal and compares it to a reference level set by the R1 potentiometer. If the signal exceeds the reference, an alarm is triggered.

How can the alarm be reset?
The alarm can be cleared by Pressing the local reset pushbutton, or Sending a logic 1 signal to the RST input pin

Can I adjust the sensitivity of the vibration detection?
Yes. If your sensor outputs 0.2V peak for 3/sec., connecting the GAIN pin to ACOM will double the gain of the detector, increasing sensitivity.
