Functional Description

IC3600SSLD1H is a Setpoint Control Card developed by GE. It is a part of GE Mark I and II series. It is responsible for managing and adjusting control setpoints within the turbine’s operating parameters, ensuring precise regulation of critical factors such as temperature, pressure, and speed.

System Features

  • System Control mode indicating lights are strategically placed within each of the major input circuits—such as the acceleration loop—to provide visual feedback on the current operational status of the gas turbine. These indicators are electrically integrated within their respective control loops and physically mounted on the front of the control panel, with optional connections for remote indication. This setup allows the operator, whether on-site or monitoring remotely, to track the unit's control status at every critical phase of operation.
  • For example, the operator can easily determine when the turbine is in start-up control mode, recognize the transition when the suppressed temperature control becomes active, observe when acceleration control engages, and finally, identify the point at which the system switches to speed governing mode.
  • Once the turbine has been fully loaded—either manually or automatically, depending on the operator’s preference—a red temperature light will illuminate, signaling that the turbine is operating at full load for the current ambient temperature conditions.
  • To enhance operational safety and control, the system includes a coordination mechanism between the governor raise circuit and the temperature control loop. When the turbine reaches temperature control mode, the speed setpoint automatically ceases to increase, preventing potential over-speed or overheating conditions.
  • If the temperature control loop fails or is compromised—such as by a short circuit—the system is designed to ensure immediate fallback control by the speed governor, maintaining stable turbine operation. This intelligent design approach is referred to as “redundancy by association”, providing an additional layer of reliability and fault tolerance within the turbine’s control architecture.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IC3600SSLD1H?
It is a Setpoint Control Card developed by GE.

How does the system prevent overspeed or overheating?
The governor raise the circuit is linked to the temperature loop. Once temperature control is reached, the speed setpoint stops increasing automatically to prevent unsafe operation.

What is redundancy by association?
This feature ensures that if the temperature control loop fails or is compromised (e.g., by a short circuit), the speed governor automatically takes over. This design maintains control integrity and turbine safety without interruption.
