Functional Description

IC3600SPRB1-REV-A is a Pulse Circuit Board developed by GE. It is a part of GE Mark I and II series. Designed to generate and process electrical pulses required for precise control and synchronization of turbine operations. It plays a crucial role in signal conditioning and timing functions, contributing to the stable and efficient operation of the turbine.

System Vibration Transducers

  • Vibration Transducers are components used to monitor the dynamic behavior of rotating machinery such as gas and steam turbines. These devices are velocity-sensitive, meaning their output voltage is directly proportional to the velocity of the vibration they detect. The typical design of such a transducer involves a permanent magnet that is suspended within the sensor body using low-compliance (flexible) springs, effectively isolating it from external structural vibrations. Surrounding this magnet is a coil that is rigidly attached to the transducer housing, which in turn is securely mounted to the turbine casing.
  • When the turbine vibrates during operation, the coil moves along with the structure while the magnet tends to remain stationary due to its inertial properties. This relative motion between the coil and the stationary magnet induces a voltage in the coil in accordance with Faradays Law of Electromagnetic Induction. The amplitude and frequency of this voltage reflect the characteristics of the turbine's vibrations and are sent to associated electronics for analysis and monitoring.
  • For failure detection and health monitoring of the sensor itself, a small electrical current is continuously passed through the coil. This current generates a DC voltage that correlates with the internal resistance of the coil. Any deviation from normal resistance values may indicate potential sensor degradation or failure, allowing maintenance personnel to take timely corrective action and prevent erroneous readings or system faults.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IC3600SPRB1-REV-A?
It is a Pulse Circuit Board developed by GE.

How does a vibration transducer work?
It typically contains a permanent magnet suspended on springs and a surrounding coil attached to the sensor frame. As the turbine vibrates, the coil moves relative to the magnet, inducing a voltage that is proportional to the vibration velocity.

What type of output does the transducer provide?
The transducer provides an AC voltage signal that is directly proportional to the velocity of vibration. This signal is used by monitoring systems to assess the health and stability of the turbine.
