FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
IS220PDIAH1A, REV E is a Discrete Contact Input I/O Module manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series used in GE Distributed Turbine Control Systems. The PDIA REV E I/O pack provides the electrical interface between one or two I/O Ethernet networks and a discrete input terminal board. The pack contains a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and an acquisition board specific to the discrete input function. The pack accepts up to 24 contact inputs and terminal board-specific feedback signals, and PDIA accepts three different voltage levels (with types TBCIH1, H2, and H3 terminal boards). Connections for the isolated discrete input board with voltage sensing (with the type TICI board) are available. System input to the pack is through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a three-pin power input. Discrete signal input is through a DC-37 pin connector that connects directly with the associated terminal board connector. Visual diagnostics are provided through indicator LEDs, and local diagnostic serial communications are possible through an infrared port.
COMPATIBILITY:
The PDIAH1A REV E I/O pack is designed to interface seamlessly with five types of discrete contact input terminal boards, including TBCI, TICI, and STCI models. However, it is not compatible with the DIN-rail-mounted DTCI board. The configuration of I/O packs used in the system depends on the selected control redundancy mode:
INSTALLATION:
For Simplex configurations, insert one PDIA I/O pack, or for TMR configurations, insert three PDIA I/O packs directly into the appropriate terminal board connectors. Secure each pack by aligning and sliding the threaded studslocated near the Ethernet portsinto the mounting bracket designed for the specific terminal board type. Ensure the bracket is properly adjusted to avoid applying any right-angle stress on the DC-37 connector. This bracket alignment is typically a one-time adjustment over the products lifetime.
Connect one or two Ethernet cables, depending on the network configuration. The I/O pack operates using either port; however, in dual-network setups, ENET1 is commonly connected to the R controllers network to maintain proper redundancy. To power the I/O pack, simply plug in the side-mounted power connector. The PDIA features an integrated soft-start circuit that controls inrush current during startup, eliminating the need to remove power before insertion.
OPERATIONS:
The processor board is connected to an acquisition board that is tailored to the specific function of the I/O pack. When input power is applied, a built-in soft-start circuit gradually ramps up the voltage supplied to the processor board, minimizing inrush current and protecting internal components. Following this, the local power supplies are sequenced, and the processor reset is released, allowing the system to begin its initialization process.
The processor then performs a series of self-diagnostic tests to verify hardware integrity. Upon successful completion, it proceeds to load the appropriate application code stored in onboard flash memory, which is specific to the I/O pack type. As part of this process, the application reads the board ID information to verify proper compatibility among the application code, acquisition board, and connected terminal board.
If the identification data confirms a correct match, the processor initiates Ethernet communication by requesting a network address using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). This request incorporates the unique identifier obtained from the terminal board to ensure accurate addressing within the I/O network.
Once Ethernet initialization is complete, the processor configures the onboard logic, executes the loaded application, and enables the acquisition board to begin real-time operation, thereby completing the startup sequence and allowing the I/O pack to function as an active component of the control system.
