FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS200STAOH1A is a Simplex Analog Output Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series used in GE Distributed Control Systems. A small analog output terminal board designed for flat or DIN-rail mounting is called the Simplex Analog Output (STAO) terminal board. The PAOC I/O pack powers eight of STAO's 0-20 mA analog outputs. On-board circuitry and noise reduction are identical to those on the TBAO terminal board. On the board are placed high-density Euro-block type terminal blocks that are used for connecting to the customers' equipment. For the I/O processor's system diagnostics, an onboard ID chip identifies the board. The D-type connector is where the I/O pack is plugged in, and it uses Ethernet to connect to the controller.

INSTALLATION:

The STAO and a plastic insulator are mounted in a panel or on a DIN-rail-mounted sheet metal carrier. The STAO plus insulator mount can also be attached to a sheet metal assembly that is bolted directly to a cabinet. Driven equipment can be placed up to 300 meters (984 feet) away from the turbine control cabinet and shouldn't have a resistance greater than 900. There are two varieties of Euro-block terminal blocks:

  • STAOH1 has an unpluggable mount terminal block with 36 terminals.
  • STAOH2 has a permanently mounted terminal block with 36 terminals.

According to the next illustration, the eight analog outputs are connected directly to the terminal block. The SCOM connection is secured by two screws. Normally, shielded twisted pair wires #18 AWG are utilized. A GE or customer-supplied external mounting bracket is used by the I/O cable shield terminal. For the chassis ground screw connection, mounting holes E1 and E2 are present (SCOM). To maximize cabinet space, vertical stacking of DIN-type terminal boards is possible on the DIN rail.

OPERATION:

STAO offers eight outputs for analog control current. The voltage drop across the local loop current sense resistor is monitored on each output, and the signal is then given back to the I/O processor that regulates the current. Near each output's point of signal egress, filters decrease high-frequency noise and prevent surge. The drivers that produce the regulated currents are housed in the I/O processor along with the D/A converter.
