Functional Description
IC3600FPSU is a Relay Circuit Board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark I and II control system. The board offers signal switching, control logic execution, and system interlocks, enabling safe and reliable operation of turbine systems.
Features
- The card primarily consists of electromechanical relays designed to switch high or low-level signals in response to turbine system conditions or control commands.
- These relays can isolate control signals, switch loads, or serve as logic drivers in Mark I/II control schemes.
- The relays on the board may be used to engage or disengage critical control elements such as valve actuators, fuel supply systems, lubrication systems, or emergency shutdown triggers.
- These actions are typically initiated based on inputs from other cards (e.g., speed detection, temperature sensors, pressure transducers).
- The FPSU card connects with other functional modules in the Mark I/II system to receive logic inputs or send out relay contacts to actuate external equipment.
- Its relays may operate on commands from sequencer cards, feedback circuits, or safety logic, forming part of the turbine’s control and trip logic.
Functions and Advantages of Isochronous Mode
- Instantaneous Conversion to Isochronous Control: The system is designed to seamlessly transition from droop mode to isochronous mode with minimal delay or frequency disturbance. This allows the turbine-generator to continue operating independently and maintain a stable output frequency, even when disconnected from the grid.
- High-Accuracy Speed Reference: The system features a high-precision internal speed reference, enabling it to hold output frequency extremely close to the nominal setpoint. It can maintain 60 Hz (or 50 Hz) operation regardless of load variation with a precision of ±0.1 Hz, making it ideal for sensitive industrial or islanded power systems.
- Automatic Reversion to Droop Mode: When the system is reconnected to the grid for parallel (synchronous) operation, SPEEDTRONIC automatically and smoothly reverts to droop mode. This transition is load-neutral, meaning it does not cause any significant load transfer or disturbance during reconnection.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is IC3600FPSU?
It is a Relay Circuit Board developed by GE.
When is isochronous mode used?
Isochronous mode is typically used during isolated operation, when the turbine-generator is not connected to the main grid. This ensures stable frequency without relying on external grid synchronization.
How does the system switch to isochronous mode?
The switch is automatic and instantaneous. It disables steady-state feedback and FSNL (Full Speed No Load) bias via Function Code 83 while retaining transient feedback to make the speed loop act as an integrator.
