Functional Description

IS200JGPAG1A is a Ground and Power Board developed by GE. It is part of Mark VIe series. The board provides clean, reliable 24 V DC power to field devices while also serving as a grounding and shield termination platform. Its design enhances signal integrity, minimizes electrical noise, and ensures safe, reliable operation.

Purpose and Functionality

  • Support for 4–20 mA Field Devices: Designed to complement the PCAA core analog module and TCAT terminal board, both of which support twelve 4–20 mA analog inputs. However, these inputs do not include onboard 24 V power for field transmitters. The JGPA board fills this gap by providing twelve individually regulated and protected 24 V outputs, each capable of powering a single 4–20 mA field instrument such as pressure, temperature, level, or flow transmitters.
  • Shield Wire Termination and Grounding: The JGPA board offers a dedicated and organized grounding solution for shielded field wiring. Its long, narrow construction allows it to mount adjacent to the PCAA module where shield wires are typically routed. The board includes:
    • TB1 and TB2: Two shield termination blocks using 24 green Euro-style terminals
    • Flexible grounding options that allow shield connections to be tied directly to the sheet metal grounding surface below, or a separate, preferred grounding point based on system design

Power Delivery Structure

The board receives its power from either the PCAA or TCAT module via a 28 V DC power feed connected through P1. This feed provides the raw supply voltage required for the JGPA’s internal regulators. Once power enters the board, it is distributed through twelve independent regulators. These regulators ensure:

  • Clean, stable 24 V DC power
  • Overcurrent protection
  • Isolation between channels to prevent cross-impact

The regulated outputs are accessible at TB3 (terminals 1–12), which are distinctly colored orange to differentiate them from the shield grounding points.

Terminal Layout

TB3 – Power Distribution Terminals

  • Contains 12 orange terminals
  • Provides regulated 24 V power for each field device
  • Designed to minimize wiring errors through color coding

TB1 & TB2 – Shield Termination Terminals

  • Include 24 green Euro-style terminals
  • Dedicated solely for shield grounding and termination
  • Provide flexibility for direct or isolated grounding schemes

Installation Guidelines

The JGPA board is installed directly beside the terminal blocks associated with the PCAA or TCAT modules. Its placement ensures minimal cable length between analog inputs, field power, and shield connections—reducing noise and improving signal quality.

A dedicated cable connects P1 on the JGPA to the PCAA or TCAT module to supply the 28 V DC power feed. Proper orientation and secure fastening are essential to maintain electrical integrity.

Mounting Options

1. Conductive Mounting (Standard Method)

  • The JGPA mounts on a sheet metal bracket at ground potential.
  • Conductive hardware creates a direct grounding path from shield wires to the metal frame.
  • Suitable for systems where direct functional earth grounding is desired.

2. Isolated Mounting

  • Non-conductive washers and hardware are used to electrically isolate the board from the mounting surface.
  • Provides flexibility for custom grounding strategies.
  • In this configuration, grounding is defined through dedicated wiring from JGPA’s shield terminals to a preferred ground location.

This dual-method grounding capability allows engineers to tailor the installation to specific plant grounding philosophies or noise mitigation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IS200JGPAG1A?
It is a Ground and Power Board developed by GE under the Mark VIe series.

How does the board receive power?
The board receives a 28 V DC feed from the PCAA core analog module or TCAT terminal board through connector P1. This power is then regulated to provide clean 24 V outputs for field devices.

How many devices can the board power?
It provides twelve independent 24 V outputs, each capable of powering a single 4–20 mA field device.

Where is the board installed?
It is installed adjacent to the PCAA or TCAT terminal boards, allowing short, organized wiring between field devices, analog inputs, and shield connections.

What makes JGPA different from other Mark VIe grounding options?
The JGPA is similar to the optional JGND board, but it additionally provides regulated 24 V power outputs for field devices. This dual function of grounding + power distribution makes it a compact and versatile solution.
