Functional Description

IS200EROCHIA is an Exciter Regulator Options Card developed by GE. It is a part of EX2100 control system. The Exciter Regulator Options Card is a component utilized in EX2100 regulator control systems, both in simplex and redundant configurations. It is designed to support various regulator functions within the EX2100 control system. It plays a crucial role in regulating and controlling the exciter, ensuring optimal performance and stability. It mounts into a single slot of either the Exciter Regulator Backplane (ERBP) or the Exciter Regulator Redundant Backplane (ERRB), depending on the system configuration.

Features

  • Board Identification Device: Equipped with a board identification (ID) device that interfaces with the M1 or M2 control associated with the specific backplane slot. The ID device contains essential information such as the barcode serial number, board type, and hardware revision. This information facilitates proper identification and configuration of the EROC within the control system.
  • LED Indicator:A green LED indicator located on the EROC faceplate illuminates when power is applied to the card. This provides visual confirmation of the operational status of the EROC, ensuring that power is successfully reaching the card.
  • Installation: Installed into a designated slot on the Exciter Regulator Backplane or Redundant Backplane, depending on the system configuration. Proper alignment and secure mounting ensure reliable operation and integration with the control system.
  • Compatibility: Designed to work seamlessly within the EX2100 regulator control system, providing essential support for regulator functions. Its compatibility with the backplane and control modules ensures smooth operation and reliable performance in regulating exciter functions.

Keypad Connectors

  • Features two keypad connectors, one on the faceplate and another on the backplane (ERBP simplex and ERRB redundant).
  • Both connectors facilitate keypad data transmission, allowing connection to bezel-mounted keypads. However, only one keypad can be connected at a time.
  • The presence of two connectors accommodates different mounting variations of the EX2100 regulator control system, ensuring compatibility with various installation setups.
  • Communication between the EROC and the keypad connectors occurs via RS-232C protocol, supporting baud rates ranging from 1200 to 38.4 K baud.

Ground Loop Isolation

  • The EROC incorporates ground loop isolation for the tool connector, achieved through the utilization of a dc/dc converter.
  • This isolation mechanism helps prevent the occurrence of ground loops, ensuring reliable and stable communication between connected devices.

Tool Connector

  • The tool connector located on the EROC faceplate serves as an interface for connecting an external computer to the IS200DSPX Digital Signal Processor Control board (DSPX).
  • Connection between the external computer and the DSPX board is established through a 9-pin plug connector.
  • The tool connector supports communication with M1/M2 and utilizes the RS-232C protocol, supporting baud rates ranging from 1200 to 38.4 K baud.

ECTB Connector

  • The ECTB connector on the EROC provides positive 70 V dc power supply to the contact output section of the IS200ECTB Exciter Contact Terminal board (ECTB).
  • This power supply ensures proper functioning and operation of the contact output section of the ECTB board, facilitating its role within the exciter control system.

Board Replacement

  • Power Down: Ensure that the board rack containing the board is deactivated to prevent electrical hazards during replacement.
  • Safety Checks: Open the exciter control cabinet door and perform tests on electrical circuits to confirm that power has been completely cut off before handling any components.
  • Labeling Cables: Check that all cables connected are labeled with the corresponding connector names as indicated on the faceplate. Proper labeling simplifies the reconnection process.
  • Disconnect Cables: Disconnect all cables, including redundant connections and ISBus cables if applicable. Ensure each cable is carefully removed to avoid damage.
  • Removal of EROC:
    • Choosen the screws located near the ejector tabs at the top and bottom of the faceplate. These screws should remain captive in the faceplate.
    • Raise the ejector tabs to unseat from the rack.
    • Using both hands, gently pull out of the rack. Exercise caution to avoid damaging the electronics. Inserting the EROC into an incorrect slot can lead to electronics damage, so ensure it is placed in the designated slot.
  • Replacement: Slide the replacement EROC into the appropriate slot within the rack.
  • Seating the Board: Firmly press both the top and bottom of the faceplate simultaneously with your thumbs to start seating the board.
  • Securing the Board: Finish seating the board securely by evenly tightening the screws located at the top and bottom of the faceplate. Ensure the module is seated squarely within the slot.
  • Reconnection: Reconnect all cables that were previously disconnected during the replacement process.
