IS200DSCBH1A is a Simplex Serial Communication Input/Output terminal board developed by GE. It is part of Mark VI series. This compact board serves as a dedicated interface for connecting external intelligent devices to the control system via serial communications. Its design allows reliable signal transmission while minimizing electrical noise, ensuring accurate and efficient data exchange for industrial applications.
The DSCB board is primarily designed to interface external devices with the VSCA board using serial communication protocols, including RS-232C, RS-422, and RS-485. External devices commonly connected to DSCB include:
Communication is achieved via shielded twisted-pair wiring, providing noise immunity for sensitive analog and digital signals. On-board noise suppression circuitry further protects signal integrity, making DSCB ideal for industrial environments prone to electromagnetic interference.
Additionally, an on-board ID chip identifies the DSCB board to the VSCA module, enabling system diagnostics and ensuring that only compatible hardware is used in the control system.
It is DIN-rail mountable, making installation in control cabinets compact and convenient. The board slides into a plastic holder mounted on the DIN-rail, ensuring a secure and organized setup. Wiring connections are made through a Euro-Block type terminal block, which provides robust connectivity while keeping wiring organized.
Intermediate distribution for RS-422 multi-drop signals is handled by XDSA boards, with field devices like pressure transducers connecting to ports P1–P4. For example, DSCB can use two of six VSCA channels to interface with twelve Honeywell pressure transducers efficiently.
Once installed, the board enables serial communication between external devices and the VSCA board. Signals from devices such as pressure transducers and electric drives are routed to the VSCA for processing. Multi-drop RS-422 signals are distributed via intermediate XDSA boards, allowing multiple devices to share communication channels without signal interference.
The board includes a read-only ID device that stores:
When the VSCA reads this ID chip, it verifies compatibility with the system. Any mismatch generates a hardware incompatibility fault, helping prevent configuration errors. Communication issues and device malfunctions are also detected by VSCA and reported to the Toolbox software, enabling rapid troubleshooting and system maintenance.
Each of the six communication channels on DSCB has a jumper to connect the cable shield to ground through a capacitor. This feature is used when the shield is grounded at the device end, improving noise suppression. All other configuration settings, such as channel assignment, baud rate, and protocol selection, are managed through the VSCA board and the Toolbox configuration software.

What is IS200DSCBH1A?
It is a Simplex Serial Communication Input/Output terminal board developed by GE under the Mark VI series.
What is the primary function of the DSCB board?
The board allows external devices such as intelligent pressure sensors and valve actuators to communicate with the VSCA board. It supports RS-232C, RS-422, and RS-485 serial protocols and ensures signal integrity through on-board noise suppression.
What is the purpose of the shield terminals (SCOM)?
Shielded wiring reduces electrical noise and ensures accurate signal transmission. The four SCOM terminals should have short connections to maintain signal integrity. Shields can also be grounded at the device end or through the board using jumper-configurable options.
How does the board communicate with the VSCA board?
It connects to the VSCA board via a 37-wire cable, enabling communication for up to six channels. Multi-drop RS-422 signals are distributed via intermediate XDSA boards, allowing multiple devices to share a single communication channel.
Can the shield grounding be customized?
Yes. Each channel has a jumper to connect the cable shield to ground through a capacitor. This is configurable depending on whether the shield is grounded at the device end or at the control cabinet.
