FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS200STCIS2A is a Simplex Contact Input Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the VIeS Series used in GE Distributed Control Systems. The board is a space-efficient terminal board engineered for mounting on DIN rails or flat surfaces. It can accommodate up to 24 contact inputs, receiving a nominal excitation voltage of 24, 48, and 125 V DC from an external source. Equipped with noise suppression capabilities, the contact inputs are safeguarded against both surges and high-frequency interference. This board seamlessly integrates with Mark VIeS systems, ensuring compatibility and efficient operation within larger control and monitoring setups.

FEATURES:

  • The threshold voltage for contact input detection is set at 50% of the respective excitation voltage. This level serves as the trigger point for identifying contact closures or changes in status.
  • Employs contact sensing circuits, which are visually represented in a figure or diagram. These circuits are responsible for detecting and interpreting contact input signals.
  • To ensure safe and reliable operation, the input currents for the first 21 circuits are restricted to a maximum of 2.5 mA. However, for circuits 22 through 24, the allowable input current is higher, capped at 10 mA. This differentiation allows for tailored handling of various input requirements.
  • A 24 V DC supply is incorporated into the system and is equipped with polymer positive temperature coefficient (PTC) fuses that are resettable. These fuses serve to limit the current to 0.5 A, enhancing protection against overcurrent situations while allowing for automatic resetting.
  • To maintain signal integrity, the device features filters designed to reduce high-frequency noise and suppress surges at each input point, specifically near the point of signal entry. This feature ensures that the input signals remain stable and unaffected by external disturbances.
  • The discrete input voltage signals generated by contact inputs are directed to the I/O processor. This processor then utilizes optical isolators to electrically isolate these signals, convert them into digital format, and subsequently transfer them to the controller.
  • This sequence of operations ensures that the processed signals are accurately and securely relayed for further control and monitoring.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is a Simplex contact input terminal board?

A Simplex contact input terminal board is a device used in various applications to connect and interface with electrical contacts or sensors. It typically provides a convenient way to organize and manage input signals from different sources.

What are the common uses of a Simplex contact input terminal board?

These boards are commonly used in industrial automation, control systems, and security systems. They can be used to connect switches, sensors, or other devices that provide input signals to a central control unit.

How does a Simplex contact input terminal board work?

These boards typically have multiple terminal points where you can connect wires from your sensors or contacts. When a sensor or switch is activated, it sends a signal to the terminal board, which then relays this information to the control unit.
