FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS200STCIS1A is a Simplex Contact Input Terminal Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark VIe Series used in GE Distributed Control Systems. The Simplex Contact Input (STCI) terminal board is a small contact input terminal board intended for flat or DIN-rail mounting. The STCI board can receive 24 contact inputs with nominal 24, 48, and 125 V dc excitation from an external source. The contact inputs contain noise reduction to guard against surge and high-frequency noise. The Mark VIe and Mark VIeS systems are compatible with the STCI.

INSTALLATION:

The STCI, plus a plastic insulator, mounts on a sheet metal carrier that then mounts on a DIN rail. Optionally, the STCI plus insulator mounts on a sheet metal assembly that then bolts into a cabinet. The contact inputs are wired directly to the terminal block, typically using #18 AWG wires. Shields should be terminated on a separate bracket. Two types of Euro-block terminal blocks are available:

  • STCIH1 has a permanently mounted terminal block with 52 terminals.
  • STCIH2, STCIH4, and STCIH6 have a right-angle header accepting a range of commercially available pluggable terminal blocks, with a total of 52 terminals.

OPERATION:

The operation and built-in signal conditioning are identical to those on the TBCI and have been scaled for 24, 48, and 125 V dc excitation. The input excitation ranges are 16 to 32 V dc, 32 to 64 V dc, and 100 to 145 V dc, respectively. 50% of the excitation voltage serves as the threshold voltage. The contact sensing circuits are shown in the figure. In the first 21 circuits and circuits 22 through 24, contact input currents are resistance-limited to 2.5 mA and 10 mA, respectively. Using polymer positive temperature coefficient fuses that can be reset, the 24 V dc supply is current-limited to 0.5 A.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Simplex Contact Input Terminal Board?

A Simplex Contact Input Terminal Board is a field interface device used to connect discrete contact inputs to a control system. It converts external contact signals into conditioned electrical inputs that the controller can read reliably. These boards are commonly used in turbine and industrial automation systems for monitoring switches, relays, and contact closures.

What is the purpose of input conditioning on the board?

Input conditioning filters and stabilizes the incoming contact signals to prevent false readings. It reduces noise, surges, and high-frequency interference commonly found in industrial environments. This ensures reliable and stable operation of the control system.

What is the purpose of the 3.2 kHz LVDT excitation output?

The 3.2 0.2 kHz output is designed for driving LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensors, commonly used for position sensing in turbine and process control systems. Although STCI is primarily a contact input board, the LVDT excitation output supports integration with position feedback devices in the control system. This enables consistent excitation frequency for accurate LVDT operation.
