Functional Description

IS200MVRFH1A is an Interface Board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe series. This board is primarily designed to interface signal processing and communication within the turbine control system.

System I/O Interface

The system’s Input/Output (I/O) interface includes termination boards designed to facilitate reliable wiring connections between field devices and the control system. There are two primary types of termination boards used in these systems:

Removable Terminal Block Boards

  • One type of termination board features two 24-point, barrier-type terminal blocks. These terminal blocks are removable (unpluggable), allowing for easier field maintenance without disturbing the wiring. This design enhances serviceability and reduces downtime during troubleshooting or replacement.
  • These termination boards are available for both Simplex and Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) control configurations.
  • Each terminal block can accept up to two wires of 3.0 mm² (equivalent to #12 AWG) with insulation rated for 300 volts.
  • The removable terminal blocks enable quick disconnection and reconnection of field wiring, improving maintenance efficiency.

Fixed Terminal Block Boards for Simplex Controls

  • The other type of termination board, specifically used in Simplex control systems, is mounted on a DIN rail inside the control cabinet.
  • This board contains a single fixed box-type terminal block.
  • It can accept either one wire of 3.0 mm² (#12 AWG) or two wires of 2.0 mm² (#14 AWG), also rated with 300-volt insulation.
  • Unlike the removable type, this terminal block is fixed in place, providing a more compact and robust wiring solution suitable for Simplex systems.

Installation and Wiring Considerations

  • The I/O devices, such as sensors, actuators, and other field instruments, can be installed up to 300 meters (984 feet) away from their respective termination boards. This flexibility supports large and complex installations where field devices are physically distant from the control cabinet.
  • The termination boards themselves must be located within 15 meters (49.2 feet) of the corresponding I/O cards inside the control cabinet. This proximity ensures signal integrity and reduces wiring complexity inside the cabinet.
  • Typically, termination boards are arranged in vertical columns inside dedicated termination cabinets. This organized layout helps manage large numbers of connections systematically.
  • Pre-assigned cable lengths and routing paths are used to minimize electrical interference. Careful routing is especially important for noise-sensitive signals such as speed inputs and servo control loops, which can be adversely affected by electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI).
  • Proper shielding and separation from noise sources are practiced to maintain high signal quality and reliable system performance.
