Functional Description

IS200EAUXH2A is an Auxiliary Interface Board developed by GE. It is a part of EX2100e excitation system. It functions in thyristor-based excitation systems, serving as a digital controller that facilitates communication between various control and monitoring components within the excitation system. It is a digital control interface within the EX2100e excitation system, designed to manage auxiliary inputs and outputs for excitation control. It acts as a bridge between the exciter control modules, High-Speed Serial Link (HSSL) interface boards, and ground detection components, ensuring seamless operation and data exchange.

Features

  • One of its functions is generating a 41 VDC flashing output, sourced from the HSSL Interface Boards. Additionally, it ensures a high-speed connection between the main control processor and the HSSL board, facilitating precise excitation control. The HSLA board is also linked to the EAUX board, ensuring smooth data transmission in host applications.
  • Optimized for thyristor-controlled excitation systems, maintain voltage regulation, power stability, and auxiliary signal processing. Its advanced design allows for accurate execution of key excitation control functions, ensuring reliable operation in industrial and power generation applications.
  • Engineered for seamless integration within the EX2100e excitation system, ensuring stable performance in demanding environments. By efficiently managing auxiliary inputs and outputs, it supports the overall excitation control process, contributing to improved system efficiency, reliability, and long-term operational stability.

Interaction with the Exciter Attenuation Module (EXAM)

Works in conjunction with the Exciter Attenuation Module to provide essential ground detection functions in the EX2100e Excitation Control System.

  • Voltage Scaling for Ground Detection: The EXAM module mounts inside the High Voltage Interface (HVI) module within the exciter’s auxiliary cabinet. It is responsible for sensing high voltage from the bridge circuit and scaling it to a usable level. The scaled voltage is then transmitted to the EAUX board for ground fault analysis.
  • Communication Between EXAM and EAUX: A 9-pin J2 cable provides a direct connection between the EXAM module and the EAUX board. The EAUX board transmits a ±50V square wave signal to the EXAM module. In return, the EXAM module sends back analog feedback proportional to the ground current, helping to detect any ground faults.
  • Relay Driver Outputs and Redundant Control: The EAUX board features two relay driver outputs that control key EXAM functions.
    • Master Selection Relay: Determines whether the ground detection system is controlled by M1 or M2 in a redundant control setup.
    • Test Relay Control: Activates a temporary ground resistance to test the Field Ground Detector (FGD) function.

EX2100e Regulator Applications – EAUX vs ERAX

In some EX2100e regulator applications, the EAUX board is replaced by the ERAX board, which serves a similar role but with enhanced features. When the ERAX Board is Used:

  • In EX2100e regulator applications, the EXAM module connects directly to the ERAX board instead of the EAUX board.
  • The ERAX board provides advanced control for ground detection and excitation regulation.
  • It is a more integrated solution for specific excitation system configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IS200EAUXH2A?
It is an Auxiliary Interface Board developed by GE under the EX2100e series.

What is the primary function of the board?
This board serves as an interface between the main control processor and the exciter attenuation module (EXAM), ensuring efficient ground fault detection and voltage regulation within the EX2100e system.

How does the component communicate with the system?
It communicates with the system through a High-Speed Serial Link (HSSL) board. It also connects to the High-Speed Serial Link Interface (HSLA) board, which facilitates data exchange in host applications.

What voltage does the board produce?
The board generates a 41 VDC flashing output from the HSSL Interface Boards, which is crucial for system operation.

How does it contribute to ground fault detection?
It works with the Exciter Attenuation Module (EXAM) to detect ground faults. The EXAM board scales high voltage from the bridge and transmits it to the EAUX board for analysis. The EAUX board provides a 50V square wave signal to the EXAM module, which in turn sends back analog feedback proportional to ground current.
