FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS200EAUXH2A is an Excitation Control Auxiliary Interface Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the EX2100e Series used in GE Excitation Turbine Control Systems. The EX2100e Excitation Control Auxiliary I/O (EAUX) board serves as a high-speed interface between the UCSx controller and various auxiliary functions within the excitation system via the High-Speed Serial Link (HSSL). It controls one or two 41DC contactors or breakers, providing coil driver outputs and auxiliary contact feedback, and manages the field flashing module with 53A and 53B flashing contactor drivers, along with their feedback. The board also handles the 86G customer lockout input, including a controller-independent permissive to the 41DC contactor, and provides redundant firing enable controls to the de-excitation module while monitoring conduction status feedback from the de-excitation and crowbar modules. It incorporates a redundant field ground detector function interfacing with the EX2100e Ground Detector Attenuator Module (EXAM), receives field voltage and current feedback through fiber-optic connections from the EX2100e DC Fanned Feedback (EDFF) board, and monitors control power supply inputs. Additionally, it instruments the power potential transformer (PPT) secondary voltages to the power converter via the EBAC board and provides a triple modular redundant (TMR) interface with the M1, M2, and C UCSx controllers through the HSLA high-speed serial link, ensuring reliable, fault-tolerant operation of the excitation system. The EAUX interfaces with the M1, M2, and C CSLA control boards through HSLA boards. The EAUX is available in two groups (versions). Both groups accept the EAUD daughterboard, which converts the 41DC interface from a standard 125 V dc coil driver mode to a high-speed contactor interface used in some EX2100e control systems.

INSTALLATION:

For factory-assembled EX2100e systems, the EAUX board is supplied pre-mounted to a high-voltage interface (HVI) module or bracket in the exciter power converter cabinet or auxiliary cabinet. For digital front-end (DFE) control retrofits to existing power converters, the EAUX and HVI brackets may be shipped separately for installation at the customer site. If the EAUX is supplied as part of a field-installed kit, it must be installed in a clean environment where it will not be exposed to heat-generating equipment, electromagnetic interference (EMI), or ambient conditions beyond the EAUX specifications. It should be oriented to provide the best possible convection cooling of power components on the EAUX board. It should also be installed where personnel will not be exposed to shock or arc flash hazards that may exist in the excitation equipment. The EAUX is installed in a plastic carrier that consists of two identical halves (GE part number 151X1235BE50PP01, ESYS/EAUX CARD CARRIER). The two halves fit together to support the entire perimeter of the EAUX to protect it from flexing that might damage the board, and to insulate it from the mounting bracket. Two screws hold the EAUX to the carrier, and six mounting holes hold the assembly to the HVI metal bracket. Two additional screws provide grounding of the EAUX eyelets through the carrier and into the grounded bracket.

OPERATION:

The EAUX board receives multiple DC power inputs to support its various control and auxiliary functions. It receives 125 V DC (range 90140 V) at connector J9, primarily used for driving the 41DC and 53 flashing contactors and supplying wetting power to the 86G customer lockout. The board also receives 28 V DC (range 26.629.4 V) at connector J28M1, with the redundant group H1 receiving an additional 28 V DC at connectors J28M2 and J28C. The 28 V DC input is used to develop all other control power supplies on the board and to power the HSLA daughter boards, with each section (M1, M2, and C) generating independent supplies to ensure operating redundancy. Beyond the 3.3 V logic supply derived from 28 V for EAUX logic, the board develops redundant 50 V DC for the ground detector function, and 5 V, 15 V, and -7 V DC for logic and analog circuitry. The EAUX provides undervoltage monitoring and annunciates any out-of-tolerance supply conditions to the UCSx controller via HSLA. In triple modular redundant (TMR) systems, loss of a single power supply does not impact overall system availability. The 125 V DC supply is isolated from ground, while the 28 V-based control supplies share a common return grounded through the EX2100e Power Distribution (EDIS) board. Additionally, two EAUX mounting eyelets must be grounded to the chassis to bypass noise from power and I/O connections.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is the EX2100e EAUX board?

The EAUX board is the Excitation Control Auxiliary I/O module for EX2100e systems, providing a high-speed interface via HSSL to UCSx controllers. It manages contactor/breaker control, field flashing, lockout inputs, de-excitation module signals, ground detection, and field feedback instrumentation while ensuring redundant, fault-tolerant operation.

How does the EAUX board handle ground detection?

Redundant field ground detection is implemented, with 50 V DC derived internally to interface with the EX2100e Ground Detector Attenuator Module (EXAM). The system monitors insulation integrity and ground faults in the excitation winding. All detection signals are routed back to the UCSx controller for annunciation and fault response.

How are the 41DC and 53 contactors driven and monitored?

The EAUX provides dedicated coil drivers for one or two 41DC contactors and 53A/53B field flashing contactors. Auxiliary contact feedback is sent back to the UCSx controller to confirm open/closed status. The 125 V DC supply is isolated and dedicated to these drivers to prevent interference with other control circuits.
