FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

IS230PCAAH1A REV C is a PCCA Core Analog Module manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the VIe Series used in GE Distributed Gas Turbine Control Systems. The Core Analog (PCAA) module, along with the Core Analog TCAS and TCAT terminal boards, handles a major portion of the analog signal I/O for gas turbine operations, including thermocouple inputs, 4-20 mA current loop I/O, seismic inputs, LVDT excitation and inputs, pulse rate inputs, and servo coil outputs. Suitable for simplex, dual, and TMR systems, PCAA connects to TCAT, which can fan signal inputs to one, two, or three PCAA modules, while shield ground and 24 V field power terminals on a JGPA board supplement those on PCAA and TCAT.

Each PCAA consists of a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O, two application I/O boards, and a terminal board, with the complete module treated as the smallest replaceable unit, as internal board-level repairs are unsupported. Inputs reach the module via dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors and a 28 V dc power connector (P5), with field device I/O through 120 euro-style box terminals at the module edge, power to JGPA via connector P4, and connection to TCAT via two 68-pin cables (P1 and P2). Signals are split into two categories: fanned signals routed through TCAT for use by multiple modules, and dedicated signals wired directly to PCAA, allowing PCAA to operate without TCAT if fanned inputs are unnecessary.

INSTALLATION:

To connect the PCAA module to an optional TCAT terminal board, use two 68-pin cables on connectors P1 and P2. TCAT connectors are paired according to the network: PR1 and PR2 connect to a PCAA on the R controller network, PS1 and PS2 connect to a PCAA on the S controller, and PT1 and PT2 connect to a PCAA on the T controller. Ensure the cable mounting screws are fully seated finger-tight only on both PCAA and TCAT to guarantee proper grounding. Improperly secured cables can prevent PCAA from reading TCAT’s electronic ID and may degrade signal quality.

Plug in one or two Ethernet cables, depending on the system setup. For a single IONet connection, the module functions correctly on either port. For dual connections, ENET1 is typically connected to the network for the R controller, though PCAA automatically negotiates proper operation over either port. In TMR configurations, the network connection of each PCAA must correspond to its TCAT connection; for instance, a PCAA on the R network should connect to TCAT PR1 and PR2.

OPERATION:

The PCAA module consists of four separate circuit boards in a single physical assembly. The module is regarded as the least replaceable unit because of the difficulty of isolating a failure to a single board. The module is not designed for the replacement of individual boards. TCAS accepts bulk 28 V control power through the P5 connector. It then provides the power through connector P4 to a JGPA board in the input cable shield termination location. TCAS provides the P1 and P2 68-pin connectors for IS200TCAT terminal board cables. Internal to the module, the TCAS terminal board routes signals to connectors for the BCAA and BCAB analog processing boards.

TCAS TERMINAL BOARD:

The IS200TCAS terminal board acts as the interface for customer terminals and manages signal routing to the BCAA and BCAB boards. It receives bulk 28 V control power via the P5 connector and distributes this power through the P4 connector to a JGPA board located at the input cable shield termination point.

Additionally, the TCAS board provides P1 and P2 68-pin connectors for connecting IS200TCAT terminal board cables. Internally, it routes incoming signals to the appropriate connectors for the BCAA and BCAB analog processing boards, ensuring accurate signal management and reliable operation of the system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How are signal inputs categorized in PCAA?

Signals are split into two groups: fanned signals, which are routed through the TCAT terminal board to multiple PCAA modules, and dedicated signals, which connect directly to the terminals on a single PCAA module.

What are the network connection requirements?

The module uses dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors for IONet. Single IONet setups function on either port; dual connections typically assign ENET1 to the R controller network. TMR PCAA modules must match network connections with TCAT connections.

How is power supplied and distributed?

PCAA receives 28 V DC through connector P5, while adjacent JGPA boards provide shield ground and 24 V field power. Power to a JGPA board is supplied via connector P4. Proper grounding is essential to maintain signal integrity.
