Functional Description

5464-213 is a NetCon SIO Card developed by Woodward. The SIO (Serial In/Out) Module connects the VME bus to four serial communication ports. The module is in charge of four serial ports. Ports A (J1) and B (J2) are both RS-232 ports. Ports C (J3) and D (J4) support the RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication protocols. When using 38.4 Kbaud or 57.6 Kbaud, Ports C and D must be at the same baud rate. This module's processor is a 68030. It manages data transfer between the ports and the VME bus. This module supports up to 4 KB of Dual-Port RAM and 64 KB of PROM. On this module, the local memory supports the 68030 processor. There is only one LED (FAULT) and no switches on the SIO module.

Product Attributes

  • Ports 1 and 2: RS-232 at 110-38.4 Kbaud
  • Ports 3 and 4: RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 (softwareselectable), 110-57.6 Kbaud
  • Software Support: Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, Woodward-specific service interface

Features

  • The component has four channels
  • The card also features an interface module that provides additional connectivity options.
  • NetCon 5000B SIO interface module
  • Four-port connectivity, which allows multiple devices to be connected to the card simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful for systems that require multiple devices to be connected and communicating with each other in real-time.
  • To provide visual feedback on the status of the communication channels and other features of the card, the SIO card also includes LED indication.
  • Weight: 0.73 kgs

Installation

  • When one or more transmitters are connected to a single receiver using RS-422, termination should be located at the receiver. When a single transmitter is linked to one or more receivers, termination should take place at the receiver furthest away from the transmitter.
  • Termination for RS-485 should be at both ends of the cable. If termination cannot be placed at the end of a cable, it should be placed as close to the ends as possible. A three-resistor voltage divider between a positive voltage and ground is used to terminate the circuit.
  • The resistor network's impedance should be equal to the cable's characteristic impedance. This is usually between 100 and 120 ohm. The goal is to maintain a voltage level between the two differential lines so that the receiver remains stable. The differential voltage can be between 0.2 and 6 V, with a maximum voltage of less than 10 V between either receiver input and circuit ground. Each port on the SIO board has its own termination resistor network.
  • The resistor network is connected via the 9-pin connectors on pins 6 and 9.
