FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

DS3820PSFF is an AC Input Power Supply Module manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark IV Series used in GE Speedtronic Control Systems. An AC Input Power Supply Module functions as the primary interface between external AC mains power and the internal electronics of a control system. It receives incoming AC voltage, filters and rectifies it into DC, and then regulates it into stable low-voltage outputs required by processors, input/output cards, and communication modules. Transformers and filtering components ensure electrical isolation, noise suppression, and ripple reduction, while built-in protection features safeguard against overvoltage, overcurrent, and thermal faults. Finally, the regulated DC power is distributed through connectors to the system’s boards, ensuring reliable and uninterrupted operation of the entire control unit.

INSTALLATION:

This module is designed for use with a 1771-A1B through -A4B, or later I/O chassis. When operating with a 1771-ASB remote I/O adapter, you may install it alongside any combination of I/O modules. In other configurations, ensure that no other input module or single-card block transfer module is installed within the same I/O group. The unit incorporates input filtering to minimize the effects of voltage transients generated by contact bounce or radiated electrical noise. Power for the module is supplied through the 1771 I/O chassis backplane, drawing 250mA from the chassis power supply. This consumption must be added to the total power requirements of all other modules in the chassis to avoid overloading the backplane or supply. For protection against electrostatic discharge, the AC input module is shipped in a static-shielded bag, and proper ESD handling precautions should always be observed during installation and servicing.

KEYING YOUR I/O CHASSIS:

Use the plastic keying bands, shipped with each I/O chassis, to key the I/O slots to accept only this type of module. The module circuit board is slotted in two places on the rear edge. The position of the keying bands on the backplane connector must correspond to these slots to allow insertion of the module. You can key any connector in an I/O chassis to receive this module except for the left–most connector reserved for adapter or processor modules. Place keying bands between the following numbers labeled on the backplane connector:

  • Place the module in the plastic tracks on the top and bottom of the slot that guides the module into position.
  • Do not force the module into its backplane connector. Apply firm, even pressure on the module to seat it properly.
  • Connections to the input module are made to the 21-terminal field wiring arm (cat. no. 1771–WH) shipped with the module. Attach the wiring arm to the pivot bar on the bottom of the I/O chassis.
