FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

DS3800NSFB1A is a System Firing Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark IV Series used in GE Speedtronic Gas Turbine Control Systems. Firing boards send signals to each SCR (typically six) through a separate pair of wires for each SCR. The gate wire carries a low-voltage signal that activates the SCR. When this signal is no longer present, the SCR turns off automatically. To prevent signal interference between phases and unintended voltage on the gate wire, many manufacturers use a combination of a resistor and a capacitor in parallel. This setup "snubs" the signals and ensures proper operation. This device includes six additional gate outputs and a polarity transition circuit. These features enable users to implement four-quadrant rectifiers and series-reversing AC controller circuit topologies with ease.

FEATURES:

  • Industry Standard Digital LSI-Based Design
  • Analog Delay Angle Command Signal (SIG HI) 0-5 V, 4-20 mA, or custom ranges
  • Soft-Start and Soft-Stop
  • Polarity Transition Command with Configurable Dead Time
  • Instant Enable and Inhibit
  • 50/60 Hz Frequency Operation (no adjustment needed)
  • High Current Picket Fence Gate Drive
  • Gate Drive Isolation: 600Vac
  • Power-On Reset
  • Analog Delay Determinator Circuit
  • Simple Control Power Connection

OPERATIONAL FEATURES:

  • Analog Delay Angle Command Signal (SIG HI): Users can select from various DC control signal ranges, such as 0-5 V, 4-20 mA, or custom ranges.
  • Soft-Start and Soft-Stop: During soft-start, SCR firing is initiated, and the delay angle command gradually decreases from the maximum value to the setpoint value specified by the SIG HI command signal. During soft-stop, the delay angle gradually increases from the setpoint value to the maximum value, after which SCR firing is disabled.
  • High Current Picket Fence Gate Drive: The transformer-isolated gate drive circuits deliver a strong initial firing pulse of 15 V open circuit/1.5 A short circuit, followed by sustaining pulses at 7 V open circuit/0.5 A short circuit. The gate pulse burst frequency is 384 times the main voltage frequency.
  • Phase Loss Inhibit: Thyristor gating is immediately disabled when a phase loss is detected on the AC mains. Once the mains voltage is restored, the unit is enabled and performs a soft start.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How does the firing board send signals to SCRs?

The firing board sends signals to each SCR through a dedicated pair of wires, with the gate wire transmitting a low-voltage signal to turn the SCR on.

What features are included to support four-quadrant rectifier and AC controller circuits?

The board includes an additional set of six gate outputs and a polarity transition circuit, making it easy to implement four-quadrant rectifiers and series-reversing AC controller circuit topologies.

What are the options for the Analog Delay Angle Command Signal (SIG HI)?

Users can choose from various DC control signal ranges, such as 0-5 V, 4-20 mA, or custom ranges.
