DS3800HCMC is a communication board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark IV control system

Features

  • The Board includes a modular connector for attaching to a drive as well as retention levers to keep the board in place. It has 14 jumpers, as well as 1 amber and 2 red indicator LEDs. The board also has 2 34-pin connectors, and other components.
  • It also includes erasable programmable read-only memory (EPROM) modules. The firmware and machine-readable code, which are the processing instructions used by the drive, are stored in the module. If an update to the code is available, it can be downloaded by a laptop or other device. The modules reside on a socket that is embedded on the board.
  • The modules can be withdrawn from the socket. Put a bladed instrument between the socket and the module.

System Operating Interface

  • One important feature is that the displays avoid the necessity for people to go inside the Mark IV panel to make settings and diagnose problems.
  • The vast majority of this work is accomplished from the panel front. That is important from a reliability viewpoint; one bad move inside the old style control can cause the turbine to trip. With Mark IV, most settings are made by using the 'control constants' display.
  • If the operator wishes to change the value for pre-selected load, he will go to the control constants display and find the proper page. The CRT will label one of the undedicated switches for entering the adjust mode. We call these switches 'soft' switches, for a software identified switch function.
  • Pressing this soft switch will cause the Mark IV to ask for the password After entering the proper number, the operator uses the cursor and the increment or decrement switches to make the adjustment within a limited range. This process may seem complex, but is easy to master in a few minutes.
