FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:

DS3800DVIA is a Motor Protection Board manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark IV Series used in GE Speedtronic Gas Turbine Control Systems. A Motor Protection Board (MPB) is an electrical device that is used to protect electric motors from damage due to overloads, underloads, phase loss, unbalance, and other electrical faults. It is typically installed in the electrical control panel that powers the motor. The MPB is designed to constantly monitor the electrical parameters of the motor and detect any abnormal conditions that may cause damage to the motor. When it detects a fault, the MPB will automatically disconnect the motor from the power supply to prevent further damage.

FEATURES:

Overload Protection: The MPB will trip if the motor draws too much current for an extended period of time, which can cause the motor to overheat.

Underload Protection: The MPB will trip if the motor is not drawing enough current, which can indicate a problem with the load or the motor itself.

Phase Loss Protection: The MPB will trip if one or more phases of the power supply to the motor are lost, which can cause the motor to run unbalanced and overheat.

Unbalance Protection: The MPB will trip if there is an imbalance in the voltage or current between the three phases of the power supply, which can cause the motor to run unbalanced and overheat.

Short Circuit Protection: The MPB will trip if there is a short circuit in the motor or its wiring, which can cause excessive current flow and damage to the motor.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What types of motors can an MPB protect?

An MPB can protect a wide range of electric motors, including AC motors, DC motors, single-phase motors, three-phase motors, and synchronous motors.

How does an MPB differ from a circuit breaker?

While both an MPB and a circuit breaker can interrupt the power supply to a motor in the event of a fault, an MPB is designed specifically to protect electric motors from damage due to electrical faults. A circuit breaker, on the other hand, is a general-purpose device that is used to protect electrical circuits from overcurrents and short circuits.
