Bently Nevada Interface Modules Bently Nevada Interface Modules

Bently Nevada interface Modules serve as a bridge within the system by acting as an intermediary and facilitating seamless communication and interaction between various system components. It operates as a crucial bridge that connects the system to a multitude of elements, including the system rack, software applications, and additional hardware components.

Bently Nevada Rack Interface Module

  • The Rack Interface Module (RIM) serves as the primary point of connection to the 3500 rack. It plays a crucial role in supporting a proprietary protocol utilized for configuring the rack and retrieving vital machinery information.
  • The RIM must be positioned in slot 1 of the rack, situated alongside the power supplies. It is compatible with various Bently Nevada external communications processors, including TDXnet, TDIX, and DDIX. It's important to note that while the RIM performs functions essential to the entire rack, it does not form part of the critical monitoring path and does not impact the proper, standard operation of the overall monitoring system.
  • Typically, one RIM is required per rack. In cases involving Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) setups, a TMR version of the RIM is necessary. In addition to its standard functions, the TMR RIM also conducts "monitor channel comparison" in a 3500 TMR configuration. Using this method, the TMR RIM continually cross-references the outputs from three redundant monitors. Should it detect that one of these monitors diverges beyond a configured percentage from the other two, it identifies the monitor as having an issue and logs an event in the System Event List.

Bently Nevada Transient Data Interface Module

  • The Transient Data Interface (TDI) serves as the vital link between the monitoring system and compatible software applications, such as the System 1 Condition Monitoring and Diagnostic software and the System Configuration software. This multifunctional TDI seamlessly combines the capabilities of a Rack Interface Module (RIM) and the data collection prowess found in a communication processor like TDXnet.
  • Installed in the slot adjacent to the power supply modules within a rack, the TDI establishes connections with M series monitors (such as the 3500/40M and 3500/42M) to perform continuous data acquisition. It gathers both steady-state and transient dynamic data, including waveforms, and subsequently transmits this invaluable information through an Ethernet link to the host software for analysis and monitoring.
  • It's noteworthy that the TDI comes equipped with standard static data capture functionality. However, users have the option to enhance its capabilities by employing an optional Channel Enabling Disk. With this addition, the TDI becomes capable of capturing dynamic and high-resolution transient data, further expanding its utility.
  • One of the standout features of the TDI is its integration of the communication processor function within the 3500 rack itself. While the TDI performs functions that are common to the entire rack, it's important to note that it does not play a part in the critical monitoring path. As such, it has no bearing on the proper and normal operation of the overall monitoring system for automatic machinery protection.
  • In terms of installation, it's essential to remember that each 3500 rack mandates the presence of either a TDI or an RIM, and this module always occupies Slot 1, which is located adjacent to the power supply modules. This strategic placement ensures efficient and reliable operation within the monitoring system setup. Frequently Asked Questions

What types of external communications processors does the RIM support?
It is compatible with Bently Nevada external communications processors such as TDXnet, TDIX, and DDIX.

Does the Bently Nevada interface module impact the normal operation of the monitoring system?
No, the module does not affect the proper, normal operation of the overall monitoring system. It performs functions common to the entire rack but is not part of the critical monitoring path.

How many RIMs are typically required for a single rack?
Generally, one RIM is required per rack.

What is the significance of a TMR version of the RIM in Triple Modular Redundant applications?
In TMR setups, the TMR RIM not only provides standard RIM functions but also performs monitor channel comparison to ensure monitor redundancy and accuracy.
