Functional Description

IS420PSCAH1B is a serial communication I/O board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. It interface between one or two I/O Ethernet networks and serial communications terminal board. Comprising a processor board common to all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and a serial communications board, the PSCA ensures seamless communication .

Features

  • Serial Communications Capabilities: The communications board is equipped with six serial transceiver channels, each individually configurable to meet RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 standards. This adaptability allows for versatile integration into diverse systems requiring different serial communication protocols.
  • Input and Output Interfaces: The input to the pack is facilitated through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors, providing flexibility in network connectivity. A three-pin power input ensures a straightforward power integration process. The output is managed through a DC-62 pin connector, establishing a direct connection with the associated terminal board connector.
  • Ethernet Modbus Communication: Accommodates Ethernet Modbus communication on one of its Ethernet ports, catering to the communication needs of Simplex Networks. This feature enhances interoperability and connectivity options for industrial applications.
  • Diagnostics and Monitoring: For user convenience, incorporates visual diagnostics through indicator LEDs. These LEDs offer a quick and effective means of assessing operational status and identifying potential issues. Additionally, local diagnostic serial communications are facilitated through an infrared port, providing a practical solution for diagnostic purposes.

Product Attributes

  • Connectivity: Dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors, DC-62 pin connector
  • Serial Transceiver Channels: Six channels, configurable to RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 standards
  • Ethernet Modbus Support: Available on one Ethernet port for Simplex Networks
  • Power Input: Three-pin power input for seamless power integration
  • Diagnostics: Visual indicators (LEDs) for operational status, Infrared port for local diagnostic serial communications

Communication Channels

  • The Process Systems Communications Adapter (PSCA) boasts six independent serial channels, each offering flexible configuration options to accommodate various communication needs. These channels serve as the backbone for establishing reliable connections between the PSCA and external devices.
  • RS-232 Mode: In RS-232 mode, communication is optimized for shorter distances, with a cable distance of up to 50 feet. The maximum communication rate achievable in this mode is 19,200 baud, ensuring efficient data transfer within the specified range.
  • RS-422 Mode: For longer-distance communication requirements, the PSCA supports RS-422 mode, extending the cable distance capability to an impressive 1000 feet. With a maximum communication rate of 375 Kbps, this mode enables high-speed data transmission over extended distances. Additionally, RS-422 mode allows for up to 8 drops, facilitating connections with multiple devices along the communication line.
  • RS-485 Mode: Similar to RS-422, RS-485 mode is suitable for long-distance communication, with a cable distance of up to 1000 feet. Operating at a maximum communication rate of 375 Kbps, this mode supports reliable data exchange over extended distances. Like RS-422 mode, RS-485 mode also accommodates up to 8 drops, providing flexibility in connecting multiple devices.
  • Ethernet Modbus Mode: The PSCA features an Ethernet Modbus channel dedicated to simplex networks. This mode enhances communication efficiency and interoperability, catering to the specific requirements of Modbus-enabled devices. With Ethernet Modbus support, the PSCA facilitates seamless integration into modern industrial networks, enabling streamlined data exchange and system monitoring.
