FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
IC660ELB906S is a Genius l/O IBM PC interface Module manufactured and designed by GE Fanuc as part of the GE Speedtronic Gas Turbine Control Systems. The PCIM is a motherboard/daughterboard designed for integrating user-developed microprocessor systems. It offers a low-cost connection to the Genius I/O bus, enabling the host system to control remote I/O with enhanced diagnostics, reliability, and noise immunity. The PClM software driver provides a high-level interface between the user’s applications and the PCIM, granting access to the bus. The PCIM’s daughterboard serves as a general-purpose I/O controller, facilitating device control on the Genius serial bus. It handles initialization, and fault management for up to 30 bus devices, and stores the latest I/O images for each device. Additionally, it can communicate with other controllers on the bus by transmitting background messages unrelated to I/O commands.
The interface is optimized for the IBM personal computer bus, with a configurable network data rate via an onboard dip switch. This allows the PCIM daughterboard to manage protocol handling and provides a flexible, non-time-critical method for accessing the Genius twisted pair network. The PCIM motherboard enables seamless communication with an Open Architecture daughterboard through an IBM-compatible host, with signals buffered to the host bus. It also supports daughterboard control and monitoring functions, such as a standard unit load on the IBM bus, low voltage detection, power-up RESET sequencing, and host address decoding. A built-in timer can monitor system performance and shut down the daughterboard if the host system fails, preventing bus conflicts. The timer can be disabled via a jumper if desired.
