FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONS:
DS3820NGBD is a Field Ground Protection Module manufactured and designed by General Electric as part of the Mark IV Series used in GE Speedtronic Gas Turbine Control Systems. It operates by injecting a low-frequency AC signal or a reference DC voltage into the field circuit and continuously measures for any leakage or unbalanced current that may indicate a ground fault. This ensures early detection of insulation breakdown or abnormal resistive paths to ground that could lead to catastrophic equipment failure. The module supports both single-point and double-point injection configurations, allowing it to be used in systems with either grounded or floating field circuits. In the case of a detected ground fault, the DS3820NGDB triggers alarms, communicates with the control system, and activates onboard LED indicators for real-time fault status. In single-point mode, it can also provide fault location capabilities. The module further enhances generator protection through two-stage ground resistance detection, supervision of injected signal levels, field overcurrent and undercurrent monitoring, and brush lift-off detection.
